What’s New at ColourPop and Do You Need It

“I have too much lipstick”, said no woman ever.

A few weeks ago I was in need of a replacement of my all-time favorite bronzer from ColourPop so I headed over to their website to place an order. To make the order worthwhile, I decided to poke around the website a bit to see what was new in the land of ColourPop. There were a few things that caught my eye and today I am going to quickly share my thoughts and let you know if you need these products or not. If you’re a regular reader of this blog, you know I am an admitted lipstick addict. It has recently become my favorite beauty product. It will also come as no surprise to you that I’m currently obsessed with ColourPop lipsticks. They offer great quality products at super affordable prices. Two things that I also love.

Ultra Blotted Lip

ColourPop Ultra Blotted Lip

Up first is the Ultra Blotted Lip color. this a liquid lipstick formulation that, according the website, is designed to give you a “diffused, just blotted look.” I don’t think ColourPop could have chosen a better name. This lipstick dries to a matte finish and provides medium coverage, leaving your lips looking as if you applied your lipstick then took a tissue and blotted. If you love a full coverage, “done” lip, you should probably pass on this product. But if a bit of no fuss, no muss color is your thing I say give these a try. I love a matte lip but I have found that they can sometimes be a bit high maintenance so I typically pass on matte lipsticks for work hours. However, my first time wearing the Ultra Blotted Lip was on a work day and I was pleased with how well it performed.

My Ultra Blotted Color Picks:

Split– violet fuchsia

Cherry on Top– blackened plum

Blur Lux Lipstick

Because I’m a huge fan of the Matte Lux lipsticks, when I saw that there was a new velvet blur formulation available I had to grab a couple to try. These are a traditional bullet style lipstick. The Blur Lux lipsticks also have a matte finish, but they ‘create a soft focus, blurring effect” on the lip. These lipsticks glide on with a smooth and velvety finish. They are long lasting, but I’ve found that they don’t last quite as long as the Matte Lux formula and don’t have as much color pay off either. That being said, they’re still great lipsticks.

Vignette– rich brown

Alchemist– rich blackberry

BFF Volumizing Mascara

The last item in my small haul was the new BFF Volumizing Mascara. Last year I swore off prestige mascaras so at 8 dollars a pop, I was definitely down to try this one. This mascara is available in seven shades included blue, purple, red and yellow, but I’m strictly a black mascara wearer so I opted for the color called Black on Black. This product claims to “instantly lift lashes, while volumizing and lengthening.” The brush is made of nylon fibers and is shaped like an hourglass. The shape is said to comb through the lashes from root to tip and prevent any clumping. I had to be extra careful when applying because I’ve found that with my small eyes, larger brushes such as this usually mean that product inadvertently ends up where I don’t want it. This however, is no fault of the product.

The color of this mascara is a nice, dark black which is my preference. I found that with a couple of coats there was in fact no clumping. Plus, I loved the volume it gave my lashes.

Are you my new best friend?

All of that being said, I did find that I had one complaint. Smudging. One day I had an itchy eyelid. I gently rubbed my eye and when I took my hand down there was a black smudge. I checked my makeup and sure enough there was a black smudge around my eye. As an allergy sufferer an eye rub here or there is not uncommon and with my current mascara it’s a non issue. I know I won’t end up looking like a panda.

ColiourPop BFF Mascara

At first I thought that I had in fact found myself a new BFF. While this smudging may not be a huge issue, it does mean that for me this product will not be a repeat purchase.

Final Thoughts

To sum it all up, the lipsticks are another major win for ColourPop, and at 6 and 7 dollars a piece I’d say they’re worth your money and worth a try. The mascara on the other hand, is definitely not must have status for me. However, that doesn’t mean I think it’s a bad product. If a little smudging doesn’t bother you, go for it. Also, if you’re into colored mascara this one is a very budget friendly option.

So there you have it, my take on some of the newest products from ColourPop. Have you tried any of them or are you planning to? Let me know in the comments below. In the meantime stay beautiful!
