Microblade Tatbrow Pen: Is it Worth the $27 Hype?

So I’m definitely not one of those people who follow the hype; however, after several ads all over the internet about microblading tattoo pens for eyebrows, I broke down and bought it. And? …. Tatbrow is not that bad. It does require some practice to achieve a natural look. But all in all, not too shabby. That’s why I’m here to debunk the rumors and give my honest opinion on if it’s worth the $27 hype.

Many of you have probably seen different versions of this brow pen floating across social media; even Maybelline has its own version. For the most part, they all proclaim to give hair like strokes that are smudge resistant. Some say they are waterproof and can last for 24 hours. Those of us with the “eyebrows to be desired” syndrome, would be crazy to not give it a try. Right?

Eyebrow: The Accessory

For a girl like me, going to coin the term here “brow-ly challenged”, eyebrows are my number one accessory. I can run errands here or there without my foundation; however, I’m never sick enough to leave home without my brows. So when I say, I’ve tried everything, I do mean everything. I’ve bought pencils, stencils, pomades, powders, mascaras, you name it. I’m always looking for a product that gives a natural finish, but doesn’t wipe away easily. I need something that can but don’t quickly with little to no hassle. I’m even seriously contemplating spending hundreds of dollars on micro shading “ombré” or even microblading. So of course I opted to at least try this less painful, less expensive version first.

TatBrow Like Pros

After numerous attempts to perfect my brows with this pen… I can actually say, it’s not that bad. The pen does create hair like strokes, if you use it properly. As I mentioned earlier, it’s definitely a learning curve to master the strokes. There’s a particular way that you have to hold the pen to create separate strokes. I found this out after randomly searching reviews to see if anyone else found this product useful. The pen should be held upside down with upward strokes to achieve the best results. If done incorrectly, as I’ve mastered… you get dark marks, which end up looking as if you used a sharpie. #Notcute. So, after much trial and error, I can now easily create natural looking eyebrows. Once dry the the hair like strokes are truly smudge proof. The only catch is … once dry… it can take a couple of seconds to dry. Who has time for that? I draw my eyebrows on minutes before it’s time to clock in. Well, let’s just say I’ve had to dedicate more time for my morning makeup routine.

Tatbrow or not Tatbrow

If we’re going solely on what this product is marketed to do… I’d say it passes the test. The pen does create hair like strokes (When applied correctly). Although, it would be nice if it came with an in-depth tutorial on YouTube. It is definitely smudge proof. I’ve tested this out several times. As I mentioned in the Full Coverage Foundation post, I have oily skin. With other products they usually wipe away during the day. I can honestly say, this product does last 24 hours. I’ve exercised, tried on clothes, even rubbed oil off of my face, and dare I admit, slept in them and my eyebrows remained in tack until I washed them off with soap and water.

TatBrow is also water resistant. I haven’t tested this out as everyday wear goes, as it’s too cold outside to go swimming. The only daily task I can think of in terms of really caring if my eyebrow product is waterproof, is swimming. I did; however, make drawings on my hand, then ran water over it and the product didn’t run or smear. I guess that’s good to know in case it rained on your face? You should be good to go.

So there we have it. If you have time and/or consider yourself a eyebrow master cosmetologist, then this product is for you. Otherwise; you literally have to wash your face after every failed application. No fault at all to the manufacturer. They made a great product!

As I hold this pen in hand, I wonder how much ink it has is in it. I guess I’ll continue to Tatbrow until it all runs out. Who knows; hopefully, by then I will be a expert user. If so, I promise to do an in-depth tutorial😉. Or on the flip side, I’ll then start saving enough mullah to have my brows professionally done.

Please comment below if you have purchased a pen similar or if your seriously interested in Microblading. I’m truly intrigued as to what you guys have to say.

Until then, stay focused my “browly-challenged” friends!

  • TEST TEST

I’m 64 and I love using TatBrow. When riding my motorcycle, the brows don’t come off inside of my helmet which is why I am such a fan. I got one for my daughter to try out and she loves it. But, they jack up every order. I ordered all Ash Black. Each time the default I guess is what it is, it goes back to Blonde. So, its a battle to get it replaced. The first time , I dropped it and gave the blonde away. This time, I fought and left messages. Today, my email says they are sending me a replacement … BROWN! I am done. I’m not going through this again.

I bought two and had bought similar cheaper version off Amazon prior to Tatbrow. I was so unhappy with the Amazon purchase as they lasted a total of a week. I was even more unhappy with tatbrow as the price was more than double and one lasted exactly three applications (once applied per day) and the other I was only able to apply it three times and a half eyebrow 😂😂 I hate products like this and even more so when they try and coax a good review by telling the buyer they will send a free $100 Amazon gift card for a good review. Like I said about the Amazon brand, the concept is great but unless they incorporate a better ink soaking structure or make it refillable, it is not worth the price.

      Hi,
I totally agree with you. I ran out of ink in less than a month and have decided NOT to waste any more money on this product. Definitely not worth $27 maybe $13. I’m current looking for other eyebrow pomades you try. I’ll let you know how that goes! Take care!

Disgusting product, it came orange,re. Company acknowledged there was a problem, sent me another one, same horrible color. Company now requires me to pay for return shipping to get refund. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY. There are other products and much better companies to spend you money on

Sorry this happened to you. I haven’t purchased their products since I did this initial review. Please share back if you find a better product. I’d love to try new things.
