OOTD: Casual Winter Uniform
Happy Friday y’all! We made it to the end of another work week! Well… you made it. I won’t tell y’all that the holidays along with vacation have me so mixed up! I had to check the calendar to see what day it actually is. *Insert face palm emoji here.* It’s pretty unbelievable that today is the last Friday of 2018 right?! To end the year I’m sharing with you a look I wore to do some exploring downtown this past weekend.
Looking pulled together doesn’t have to be difficult or complicated. For cooler winter temps my basic weekend wardrobe consists of a sweater and jeans, but who says a sweater and jeans has to be basic? I have a few simple tips that can take a basic look and amp it up a bit so that you look like it took you longer to get dressed than it actually did.
Tip 1: Color
So often we tend to think that dressing for the fall and winter means we have to put away the bright, colorful pieces in our wardrobes in exchange for drab neutrals. Nothing could be further from the truth, and I love myself some neutrals! For an eye catching winter look, select a sweater in a bright color that flatters your skin tone and watch your outfit instantly come to life.
Tip 2: The devil is in the details
If you’re only going to wear two pieces, make them stand out. Choose sweaters with details that make them look and feel a little more special. This one from Express has a voluminous sleeve and circle hem that makes it a standout out piece. The wider neckline means it can also be worn off the shoulder if you so choose.
Tip 3. The right pair of shoes can change your life
Any fashionista, or wannabe fashionista, knows that your shoes can make or break your look so you must always choose wisely. Because I opted for more basic pieces as the base of my look, I was able to take a walk on the wild side with my footwear. These cheetah print slippers are neutral, yet bold and add just the right amount of “oomph” to what might otherwise be a boring outfit. Another major plus is that wearing these shoes is like walking on clouds. If you want to know more about my Birdies slippers, read my recent blog post here.
Tip 4: Accessorize
I decided to keep the accessories sleek and simple. So as not to clash with the off the shoulder neckline, I opted to forego a necklace in exchange for a pair of bold hoop earrings. Some brightly colored glass beaded bracelets rounded out my jewelry picks. My final accessory was a Louis Vuitton monogram print handbag. The neutral tones of the logo mixed nicely with the cheetah pattern of my slippers to create contrast and interest in two simple steps.

My go-to during the winter is a cozy sweater & a long coat! I also really love a good ankle boot! It’s beyond freezing where I live so I have to really bundle up!

Here in Georgia a coat is “optional” for much of the winter. Lol. But I love a good ankle boot too!

Yes! I think bright colors help make the cold winter days a little more bearable.

Wow!! I love the off the shoulder sweater. Looks great. Most of the time i find myself preferring dull colors and by dull I mean black.

Thank you Mary! I definitely get it . Black is one of my favorite colors, but that also makes it easy to add a pop to your wardrobe. I mean what doesn’t go with black right? Thank you for reading!
